Jan Eversen (Dutch School 1906-1995)
Johannes Hendrik Eversen is best known for his finely detailed still life paintings, inspired by those of the old 17th century Dutch masters. He began as a portrait painter but during his training at the Heatherley School of Art in London (1930) discovered the beauty of works by the still life painters Willem Heda, Pieter Claesz and Clara Peeters. The artist dedicated himself completely to ever perfecting the depiction of texture and play of light on the objects he painted. He spent the last forty years of his life in the Dutch city of Ede, where he also painted a number of landscapes.
Eversen's first one-man show was held in 1938, exhibiting the next year for the first time at the Royal Academy. He exhibited annually at the Royal Academy from 1955-1970. In his lifetime he enjoyed much success and held many exhibitions at leading fine art galleries throughout Europe.
