Twilight over the Lakes
Twilight over the Lakes
Oscar Lycke (Swedish School 1877-1927)
Oscar Lycke began his professional life working in a department store in Sundsvall, in his spare time he would draw caricatures of his colleagues on left-over wrapping paper. When he was twenty years old he had saved enough money to apply for the Stockholm Academy of Fine Art. During this period Lycke underwent much financial hardship as he made ends meet by selling cartoons to local newspapers. During this time, he also began painting the landscape of the Swedish North, it was this work for which he became lauded with critics admiring his work as much for its sense of style as for its vibrant colours.
In addition to many exhibitions in his native Sweden there were also successful exhibitions in Copenhagen and New York.
