William Linton (1791-1876) British
William Linton grew up in Lancaster and moved to London in 1817, he quickly became a regular exhibitor at the RA and BI. In 1828 he left on a tour of Italy, the sketches he made were the basis of his subsequent works depicting idealised landscapes. A prolific and successful artist his work now hangs in many museums, most notably the Tate and Fitzwilliam.
